Intimate Scale works on birch, wood panels or canvas by Artist Anne Marchand.
These small-scale works explore painting as a spatial and materially embodied form. Constructed with acrylic enamel and ink on mounted Hanji paper and wood, each work develops through layered processes of pouring, staining, cutting, and surface-building. Clay appendages extend the compositions beyond the traditional rectangular picture plane, allowing the works to function simultaneously as image and object.
The irregular perimeters and dimensional elements create shifting relationships between containment and openness, gesture and structure, surface and edge. Though intimate in scale, the works are designed to hold a strong spatial presence and invite sustained viewing.
Rooted in abstraction while informed by material experimentation, these works reflect an evolving practice centered on perception, atmosphere, and the physical experience of color and form.
